University establishes Millennium Celebration Committee

Arbaminch, August 18, 2007 (WIC):

Arbaminch University disclosed that it has established a Millennium Celebration Committee that could help ensure food security and consolidate environmental conservation. University External and Public Relations Head, Getu Lemma, told WIC that the committee would design and introduce small irrigation projects. He said the committee would have a pivotal role in supporting the efforts that the country has been exerting to alleviate poverty and ensure food security. The committee will also facilitate ways on how university scholars could design various projects that reduce unemployment, Getu added. Read further

Arbaminch University to launch five post-graduate, undergraduate programs next academic year(WIC)

April 02, 2007 (WIC):

The Arbaminch University disclosed that it would launch three post-graduate and two undergraduate programs next academic year. University President Dr Tarekegn Tadesse told WIC that the university would enroll post-graduate students in meteorology, water provision and sanitation engineering, and integrated water management. The university would also open new faculties of agriculture and health in the undergraduate program, according to the president. Read further

22 community-based projects underway (WIC)

March 28, 2007 :

Arbaminch University has reportedly been conducting research works on 22 community-based projects that are believed to have a significant contribution towards poverty reduction. University President, Dr Tarekegn Tadesse, told WIC that the university has been conducting research works that focus on ensuring food security, small and micro enterprises, population growth and land utilization, springs and wells development, water harvesting, topography, ecology and biodiversity. The new research projects will be carried out in various parts of the country, the president said, adding that they were designed based on their being practically implemented by the community.
